Simply Brilliant. My favourite book so far this year.

Written to showcase one day in their lives, every year, spanning 20 years. Two decades of little moments. It is so incredibly real. So much so that when i discover Emma’s fate i am completely thrown because, by that stage of the book, i almost felt as though i were reading a story about 2 of my best friends, not some fictional characters. Beautifully real but also depressingly real… i blame disney for my expectations of happily ever afters… life is never like that. Dex & Em, Em & Dex… they are both such well constructed characters.

It was wonderfully smart and witty. Great and intelligent writing. Can’t wait to read more from this author. Easily one of the best books i’ve ever read.

Goodreads Synopsis:

It’s 1988 and Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have only just met on the night of their graduation. Tomorrow they must go their separate ways. But after only one day together, they cannot stop thinking about one another.
Over twenty years, snapshots of that relationship are revealed on the same day—July 15th—of each year. Dex and Em face squabbles and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. And as the true meaning of this one crucial day is revealed, they must come to grips with the nature of love and life itself.

Twenty years, two people, one day.
