** spoiler alert **
Another great series from this author. I didn’t fall as in love with it as I did with the shadowlands series but I am sure as the series progresses it will grow on me.
I really hate Matt. He is a jerk. To begin with he implies that her dissatisfaction in the bedroom means there must be something wrong with her as he has never had any complaints… a** move no1. Secondly, he amps up her already fragile body issues by implying she needs to lose weight – suggesting she opt for a lower fat breakfast while looking around at the skinny bobbleheads in the room. And thirdly, what kind of ass doesn’t bother to mention that his monthly break in the mountains is less about hiking and more about hooking up with swingers – I think that topic should’ve been broached pre-moving in together (even if their relationship was “open” as he states). I also think he was a total dick when they were at the lodge. He never bothered to check if she was okay with it all in the first couple of days and that first day at the lake he just dove right in and started making out with blondie right in front of her, even when she walked in on them in bed he just smirked and asked her to join in and never once went to make sure she was emotionally ok after seeing her partner with some bimbo. Total dick!
Her mother was a complete bitch also – even though she no doubt had her own body issues after her husband left her and her daughter , that does not mean that it is okay for her to perpetuate her negative beliefs by constantly telling her daughter that she is fat and that a man won’t love her unless she gets surgery and gets skinny. Cow.
Logan has great protective instincts and I like that he looked out for her at the beginning – even if he was a bit pushy and domlike about it. He was more in tune with her feeling on the whole situation than her partner was. I like the Thor element to the story. Rebecca has a fragility and modesty about her that is appealing without being overly pathetic or whiny. The sex scenes almost have steam coming off the pages. I wasn’t too keen on the idea of her at Dark Haven with Simon at the end, and I did wonder what the hell Logan was doing there, but after finding out pepper told him where she was… well he is forgiven….. plus he helped dent those pesky insecurities further which was good – I like that he pointed out that without her having a little more weight she also wouldn’t have those fabulous breasts – thank you… so many men want big breasted women but fail to realise that, unless they were put there by a surgeon, they are made of fat, so expecting a girl to have giant breasts and be a stick insect everywhere else with no jiggly bits is totally unrealistic. Some real women have curves and most real men like them! Cherise never disappoints. She always creates great strong female leads and smoking hot alpha men that you can’t help but love, even when they are being overprotective and snarly.
If you haven’t read anything by this author before I would suggest getting started with her Shadowlands series first. But if you have an issue with adult content or kink steer clear because these books are loaded with both. Definitely not an author for those that find bdsm themes offensive.
When Rebecca’s boyfriend talks her into vacationing at a mountain lodge with his swing club, she quickly learns she’s not cut out for playing musical beds. Now she has nowhere to sleep. Logan, the lodge owner, finds her freezing on the porch. After hauling her inside, he warms her in his own bed, and there the experienced Dom discovers that Rebecca might not be a swinger…but she is definitely a submissive.
Rebecca knows that no one can love her plump, scarred body. To her shock, lodge owner Logan not only disagrees, but ties her up and shows her just how much he enjoys her curves. Under his skilled hands, Rebecca not only loses her inhibitions, but also her heart.
Damaged from the war, Logan considers himself too dangerous to be around the enticing little sub. He sends her away for her own safety, not realizing she believes she has once again been rejected because of her size. As Logan’s mountains echo with her voice long after she’s gone, he realizes she’s taken his heart with her. But when he arrives in the city to reclaim her, Rebecca’s phone has been disconnected and her apartment is empty…
